supporting suppliers in the new market

As well as offering a fair deal for businesses, the open water market will offer new opportunities for water suppliers.

Whether you currently represent a regional water company and are preparing to transition to either wholesaler or retailer status in the new market, or if you’re currently outside of the sector but interested in becoming a new water retailer, this area of the website is for you.

Ahead of the market opening in April 2017, we will be developing these pages to provide a ‘hub’ of useful information and resources for both incumbent suppliers and new entrants to the retail water market, including:

  • key documents
  • news and updates
  • information about events, including workshops and training
  • guidance and examples of best practice

In the meantime, there is a wealth of information on the website for the market operator, Market Operator Services Limited (MOSL), to support water companies in preparation for market opening, including information relating to the market infrastructure and codes.

All of the documentation relating to the Open Water programme is available in a dedicated Open Water documents archive hosted by MOSL.

If you require further information please email retailmarketopening@ofwat.gsi.gov.uk

become a water retailer

The open water market provides an opportunity for existing businesses from outside the sector, as well as new start-ups, to become licensed water retailers.

Once a licence has been granted, new retailers will be able to compete on a level playing field with the retail arms of the regional water companies.

You can find out more at the becoming a retailer page, which provides more information about licensing and the application process, the obligations and codes that all water retailers in must comply with, and the IT infrastructure that supports the new market.
